education.world-86 (EW) is SOLACŽs sister NGO in France. EW has actively supported SOLAC since its inception in 2003, in the areas of microfinance and educational development (school support and co-construction of the library).
Within the framework of the UNŽs 2010 Year of Intercultural Encounters, EW has established a twinning project between four upper elementary classes in Montamise in central western France and the Colegio Alto Peru school in Huachipa, situated in a slum area one and a half hours outside the Peruvian capitalŽs colonial downtown.
The nearly 100 French children have been focusing on Peruvian culture all year long and have just completed their pictures - all based on the theme: "draw your dream". Three EW members have worked with SOLAC on the field following various activities, including helping carry out a similar art project - designed to be interactive and to foster better mutual awareness and understanding - with the 100 youngsters in Huachipa and their teachers.
Each school has pre-selected its 10 finalists and then, via the SOLAC blog, voted on the three prize-winners from each national team.
Upon their return to France, EW will participate in a two day Peruvian cultural festival to be held in the Montamisé school in early June. Many thanks to the SOLAC team for its energy and commitment in an effort to help share the pictures, drawings and dreams of these 200 trans-Atlantic participants.
